Kaberia had testified that he was among the first officers to get to the Westgate mall on the 21st and that he had gone on to rescue at least a hundred people before shooting it out with three terrorists in the Nakumatt supermarket.
“I got there at around 12.35pm and after an hour and a half, three Asian men approached me and asked me to rescue one of their wives and child who were trapped inside the supermarket.
“When I was halfway through the supermarket, I heard a man go ksss…ksss… and then in Kiswahili he ordered me to put my gun down. I thought he was one of us until two other armed men emerged from my left and right and the one of behind the counter went, ‘tumalize ghasia hii.’
“They started firing hitting me in the left leg, right arm and ribs but even though I lost my weapon, I managed to escape on my good leg,” he alleged.
He then recounted having been admitted to the MP Shah hospital for two days contrary to Rithi’s subsequent testimony and to the delight of the defence.
The testimony continues on Tuesday with Mureithi expected to reapply for the release, on bail, of the four suspects.
