Ruto’s ICC trial set to resume January 13

Charges of crimes against humanity against Ruto, Sang and President Uhuru Kenyatta were confirmed.

The case against Kenya’s Head of State seems to be crumbling after the prosecution on December 19 said it did not have evidence to sustain charges against Kenyatta and asked for more time to fix its evidence.

It asked for his trial to be postponed from the set February 5, 2014 date.

Bensouda explained that two of her key witnesses had withdrawn from the case and one of them admitted having given false evidence against the president.

Kenyatta’s defence team had earlier asked Trial Chamber V (b) to halt his case on allegations that three witnesses were coercing and intimidating his own witnesses to drop out of his defence.

Kenyatta’s defence is yet to make a submission concerning the application by the prosecutor.

The judges will have the final say to determine if it will grant Bensouda’s request or not.
