Ironically, after her commandant recommended for her transfer the vetting panel noted that he was moved from the unit and she was instead promoted to the level of a commandant in KAPU.

“I was expecting very bad things to be said by him because he never saw me as his deputy. There were so many things that he never knew how to go about which made our relationship very bumpy,” she recounted.

“Plans are underway to train police officers to conform to the demands of the internal affairs,” he stated.

He however cited lack of facilities and low funds as key issues hampering the implementation of these programmes in the entire country.

“We have to train and get proper officers who are specialist in all areas for the success of this unit,” he said.

He noted that the unit currently lacks an office among other facilities to operate in.

During his session, footage showing police officers demanding bribes from motorist were played. He said measures had been put in place that will see the ‘rotten’ officers either reformed or removed from the service.

Nairobi County Commander Kibue who once served as Traffic Commandant was told to put in plain words measures initiated during his tenure to end road carnage and corruption within the department.

Kibue praised his term as a Traffic Commandant saying that,” cases of corruption drastically reduced during my tenure.”

“This made me become unpopular within the traffic department because of being strict,” he said.

Kibue also left the panel unsatisfied on his source of wealth which he had indicated comes from his salary, business and agriculture.

Some amounts involved in various transactions were neither reflected in his bank accounts or those of his wife. He however maintained that he had genuinely gained his wealth.

Kanampiu put the government on the spot for not providing enough resources to the service.

On a question on what he did during his tenure as the Director of Logistics, Kanampiu explained that he introduced the use of computers in police stations.
