NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 29 – Nairobi Woman Representative Rachel Shebesh has dismissed as political, allegations by a security guard that she assaulted him.

Speaking after recording a statement at the Kilimani Police Station on Wednesday, Shebesh claimed that the allegations were a fabrication meant to coerce her into dropping a case against Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero.

“This is not about tribe or political parties, it is about one leader against another, but I want to assure you that even as I face my tribulation I will continue serving and representing the women of Nairobi,” she told women who had spent the better part of the afternoon at the station.

Kidero and Shebesh are facing criminal charges of assault and creating public disturbance respectively.

Nominated MP Johnson Sakaja who is also the TNA Chairman urged the police to conduct through investigations into the guard’s allegations.

“We know that whatever is going on is a fabrication because of an altercation she had with the Governor, but ultimately, we hope that the truth will be exposed against those who have been involved in building a false case against a leader whose only crime has been defending the rights of the lonely and downtrodden,” Sakaja stated.

“What we are decrying and will not tolerate, is this onslaught on our women leaders and against our women, we will not allow it.”

He added; “I am sure you have heard some disparaging comments from Kiambu County (by Governor William Kabogo against unmarried women). We cannot allow the gains that women have made in the past years, in terms of their freedoms to be taken lightly.”

Shebesh’s lawyer Cecil Miller said that his client had complied with the police summons in order to help the police in carrying out investigations on the matter.

“Shebesh has mentioned a couple of people in her statement and we would expect that they would also be summoned, so that, they can record their statements and explain their version of the story,” stated Miller.
