NAIROBI Kenya, Jan 16- The government will on Saturday mobilise food and other necessities to Marsabit County to those who have been displaced as a result of the violence there.
Deputy President William Ruto meet leaders from the County on Friday and said tight measures have been put in place to ensure peace resumes in the County.
“We have dissected the issues that are going on in Marsabit County…Government is going to take the front line in managing security challenges facing Marsabit County, ” he stated.
“Government will also mobilise security personnel from both police and the army. All the leaders will also play their part in ensuring there is security.”
He assured of the government’s commitment to ensure peace prevails in the Northern part of the country where hundreds of people have been killed and many more displaced in ethnic fighting.
“On the assessment of security personnel on the ground, if there will be need, we will redeploy additional men and equipments to make sure that we bring the security situation under control. There are also some cross borders issues, which we will deal with,” he said.
Other than possible incitement by politicians, the conflict in the County has also been fuelled by deep-seated issues over land and grazing areas.
