NAIROBI, Kenya Dec 14 – Fuel prices went up marginally Saturday, in changes announced by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) for the period running up to January 14, next year.

In Nairobi, the price of Super Petrol per litre was capped at Sh109.28, after increasing by 28 cents.
Diesel will now sell at Sh104.52 per litre, having gone up by 41 cents.

A litre of Kerosene will now retail at Sh83.07 after increasing by Sh1.27.

A statement from the ERC said that the prices will be adjusted upwards in all parts of the country effective Sunday.

“The purpose of the fuel pricing regulations is to cap the pump prices of the products, which are already in the country, such that the importation and other prudently incurred costs are recovered while ensuring fair prices to the consumers,” the statement said.

In Mombasa, a litre of Super petrol will retail at ShSh105.93, Diesel Sh101.18 and Diesel Sh80.28.
In Nakuru, the price of diesel per liter has been capped at Sh109.93, Diesel Sh105.37 and Kerosene Sh83.84.

The commission releases fuel price adjustments monthly, to ensure consumers are not exploited by oil dealers and their agents.

“The commission would wish to remind all petroleum marketing companies and dealers that it is an offence to sell petroleum products above the maximum prices published by the commission,” ERC’s acting Director General Dr Frederick Nyang said in a statement.

Consumers are advised to report unscrupulous dealers to 0708444000 hotline number provided by the commission.
