JOHANNESBURG, Nov 12 – A South African grandmother has died after being overcome with emotion watching her granddaughter win 250,000 rand ($24,000, 18,000 euros) in a dance competition on television, the show’s producer said Tuesday.

The executive producer of South Africa’s version of “So You Think You Can Dance”, Ed Worster, said 72-year-old Beatrice Tshibika, from Khayelitsha township near Cape Town, collapsed while watching Sibahle Tshibika being crowned the show’s winner in an episode broadcast on Saturday.

“We are very saddened to hear of your recent loss and would like to express our sincere condolences to you and your family, Sibahle,” read a message on the show’s official Facebook page.
