NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 22 – President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged county governments to work with national security agencies to boost security at the county level.

Speaking on Tuesday during a meeting with Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero at City Hall, President Kenyatta emphasised the need for Nairobi County to speed up the mounting of CCTVs in the city.

“There is need for county government agencies to liaise with the National Police Service and other national security agencies to ensure Kenyans are safe wherever they are,” President Kenyatta said.

Commending Nairobi County for mounting 74 CCTV cameras within the city, President Kenyatta said he would like to see CCTV cameras mounted across the County to scale up security and curb crime.

The President and the Governor discussed other issues affecting the city and agreed on the need for regular consultations between the National and county governments to ensure improved services to citizens.

President Kenyatta said county governments should streamline land and property ownership in order to increase their revenue base.

He said there is need for county governments to come up with property management systems that would ensure efficiency and effectiveness.

Governor Kidero said he was consulting with his counterparts from neighbouring counties to see how best they could manage and use resources within their jurisdiction for the benefit of the residents.

The Nairobi Governor cited the partnership between his county government and the Machakos County where the Athi Water Services Board manages the water resource while Nairobi deals with distribution.
