Rundown of Ruto, Sang ICC case

The Office of The Prosecutor (OTP) has indicated that it will line up approximately 30 witnesses to testify against Ruto and Sang.

The list may however change as the prosecution intends to make an application to be allowed to adjust the list of witnesses as explained by Cooperation Advisor for the Kenya Situation Shamiso Mbizvo in a past interview.

Bensouda in an application to the court indicated that she will require about two months (413 hours) to present evidence against Ruto and Sang even though she was asked to compress the time.

She indicated that each of the prosecution witnesses would spend approximately one and half weeks to testify.

The Prosecution and its witnesses will be presenting incriminating evidence to prove that Sang and Ruto planned attacks on the Party of National Unity supporters in Uasin Gishu and Nandi areas following the disputed general election in 2007.

The two are each accused of six counts of murder, possible transfer of populations and persecution.

Pre-Trial Chamber II confirmed the charges against Ruto as an indirect co-perpetrator with others, while it found that Sang contributed to the commission of said crimes against humanity.

The two will also be using witnesses to prove their innocence.
