Uhuru disbands team behind outrageous Sh2.5bn bash

They accused the government of misusing public resources especially at a time when teachers, nurses, lecturers and civil servants had been demanding for a pay hike.

Regular Kenyans also took to social networks to raise their objections to the planned fete saying it was inappropriate and offensive.

“#KenyaAt50 is about to make a few select people millionaires,” tweeted SokoAnalyst.

“Hey teachers, there was no money for you, but karibuni to cheer at the Sh2.5b bash,” tweeted Sunnysunwords.

“Sh50 million for Kibaki’s statue? Eish! #KenyaAt50” It will wave the Constitution around on demand,” tweeted Mmurumba and JohnNgirachu.

“#KenyaAt50 Jubilee bash is a true #KufanyaNaKUTENDER,” tweeted WanjikuRevolt.

If the budget was approved in its current state, Sh690 million would be used for events management and logistics; Sh286 million would be spent on conferences and exhibitions while Sh365 million for entertainment.

A further Sh320 million would go towards identifying Kenya’s most prominent personalities with their portraits being exhibited on billboards around Kenya and Sh300 million would be used to publicise the event which was to be held for the entire week preceding December 12.

A Sh50 million bronze statue would also have been erected in honor of the former President Mwai Kibaki and for the fact that he oversaw the promulgation of the new Constitution.
