Friday, Aug 9 declared Idd holiday

MUSLIM-GIRLSNAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 6 – The government has declared Friday, August 9, a public holiday to mark Idd-Ul-Fitr as Muslim faithful end the holy month of Ramadan.

Government Spokesman Muthui Kariuki confirmed gazettement of the holiday.

Muslims started their 30 day fast on July 9 after the sighting of the new moon.

Fasting is the fifth pillar of Islam to be fulfilled annually after faith, prayer, charitable giving and the pilgrimage to Mecca.

Muslims are commanded by God to fast 30 days from sunrise to sunset during the month of Ramadhan, an annual event that is the holiest of the four Islamic holy months.
