On Saturday, led by President Uhuru Kenyatta, the area governor and government officials joined Saitoti’s family and friends at his Kitengela home in Kajiado County to unveil the cross and remember the former legislator.
In a mass led by Cardinal John Njue of the Catholic Church, many praised Saitoti as a fine leader who fought for peace and what was right.
He also acknowledged his strong support and mission in growing the church and whenever he was able he would attend a service in his home area.
“He was a calm and reserved man who when he spoke on a matter his words were wise and filled with counsel,” said Njue.
Legislators present also had kind words to say about Saitoti with former Speaker of the National Assembly Francis ole Kaparo remembering the times that he spent with Saitoti.
“On one of our travels he took me to a café in Europe where he believed that the wisest decisions were made and whenever he wanted to think he would visit the café,” said Kaparo.
President Kenyatta thanked Margaret Saitoti for upholding Saitoti’s values of family and keeping the entire family united as this was a very important unit for him and it always came first.
“It is good to see a family so united here today as we celebrate the life of a man who fought for the peace of this nation and Africa as a whole, “said Kenyatta.
“I also promise to keep the promise that we as a government made to continue supporting the family in their endeavors,” added Kenyatta.
Kenyatta added that he will work with all other families that lost loved ones in the accident to help them pick up the pieces and move on.
In their vote of thanks, the family thanked the government for the support and the area legislators for helping them since their loss and also in the planning of the day.
