“We are treading carefully because the girl is psychologically traumatised. If it goes down, it will go down with a lot of people. The girl was coached. Nakwambia, ikilipuka italipuka vibaya, ndio nakwambia enda pole pole. (I am telling you, if it comes out, it will explode very negatively and it will bring down a lot of people. That is why I am advising you to tread carefully). What I can tell you is that I am damned if I do, I am damned if I don’t,” she warned.
Despite persistent request for the case number, she went on with vague explanations and warnings.
“Get the case number from the OCS, the case is in Limuru Law Courts. The file is also with the Director of Public Prosecutions. The respondent is even aware of the case. Even the DC is fully aware,” she insisted before making a call to the OCS.
Capital FM News visited the Limuru Law Courts and went through the book that has recordings of all cases. We scrutinized the months of May and June and there was no a defilement case regarding the girl or the alleged perpetrator.
At Tigoni Police Station, the OCS gave a different story.
He said that the case was not in court but investigations were ongoing and advised that if further details were required, the police chief at Lari Police Station should be contacted.
But he also indicated that the girl was lying and that the medical report that showed she had been defiled was incorrect.
Though we did not see two other medical reports which he said indicated that the girl had not been defiled, we were left with more questions than answers.
First, we were grappling with a tip off that Sh100,000 had been given to police and other players in the story by the alleged defiler who is a teacher at Ngarariga Girls High School in Limuru.
A colleague who works with the man aged between 35-40 years anonymously told Capital FM News that the information leaked through his son.
The colleague explained that the man was however not arrested after pleas from his wife who claimed he was the sole breadwinner.
“The police officers visited the school of the alleged rapist, spoke to the principal and the teacher. Information has leaked to us that money is changing hands and the gentleman parted with Sh100,000 and that is why the man is still free.
When confronted with the accusations, the teacher denied the claims.
“That is a lie. This case is with the police. Those are rumours and I have told you just ask the police, they are on that case,” he said in defence.
The case leaves many unanswered questions.
First, why would the Director of Nest lie that the case was in court? What of the children’s officer?
Medical reports were done on May 28, 2013. Almost a month after, the girl is at a children’s home, her uncle is still free because police are still investigating the matter.
Could the 10 year old frame up such a story?
By the time of publishing this article, the alleged perpetrator had taken off together with his family.
