Led by the area police chief Simon Kiragu, police raided the suspect’s home early on Monday morning after trailing the suspect carjacker for some time.
Although he evaded arrest police also found number plates of various vehicles, some of which had been reported stolen.
Kiragu said that they had detained the man’s wife to assist them in their investigations.
“From our initial observations this man has been operating for long in this illegal trade, we are also following up leads to see whether he collaborates with other mechanics,” Kiragu said.
Flying Squad chief Munga Nyale has told Capital FM News that the man is linked to a string of carjacking incidents of various motorists including taxi drivers in and around Ongata Rongai.
The suspect is said to have been terrorising the area motorists especially taxi operators by drugging them then robbing them.
Police said they concretised information and leads about him last Saturday after he drugged a taxi driver whom he had hired wanting to be taken to Githurai Kimbo.
He is reported to have robbed the taxi driver upon reaching his destination.
Police recovered four vehicles parked in the compound as well as a vandalized truck.
