NAIROBI, Kenya, May 13 – Gunmen shot and killed a government driver in South ‘B’ moments after they shot and wounded a policeman in the neighbouring South ‘C’ estate.

Nairobi Provincial Police chief Benson Kibue says that the gang of five shot the driver who had a GK Land Rover on Monday afternoon thinking he was pursuing them.

The four gunmen and a lady had carjacked a vehicle in South ‘C’ where they shot and wounded the policeman during an exchange of fire.

According to Kibue, the officer on patrol had noticed a Nissan X-Trail overlapping on Mai Mahiu Road and was shot when he approached it to inquire why its driver was flouting traffic rules.

“When the officer and his colleague went to find out why they were driving carelessly and overlapping one man came out of the car shot at him and fled,” the PPO said.

Police recovered an AK-47 rifle and 28 rounds of ammunition from the X-Trail that was abandoned in South ‘C’.

Kibue said that the gang also shot and injured an Asian businessman whose car they later used to escape when they crossed over to South ‘B’.

The businessman who was shot in the leg was admitted to the Mater Hospital in a stable condition.

He said they are following crucial leads to apprehend the gang that left another stolen car on Thika road.

Kibue says that one of the gangsters sustained bullet wounds and has called on the public to report to the police when they spot anyone with bullet wounds.
