Apart for a few staff members who kept giving Kenyans, “the best mix of music,” close to a hundred Capital Group staff members donning the green Mater Heart Run 2013 T-Shirts handed out flyers, sold T-Shirts and spread good humour to those stuck in traffic on Wednesday morning.
“It was good fun for a good cause and it made me realise what it takes to clinch a sale but I managed to sell two t-shirts,” Janet Kay, Capital FM’s Social Media Manager, said of the morning out of the office.

It was Capital FM’s Programmes Controller Somoina Kimojino however who took the top prize managing to sell nine Mater Heart Run T-Shirts all on her own. “If more people tuned into Capital in the Morning there would be many more morning people on the roads,” she said confident she would have closed more sales.
“It’s not the first time we’ve done this,” Capital FM’s Traffic Manager Nyakio Karoki said, “one time we had exercise equipment at the Nyayo National Stadium and it always helps boost participation.”
This year, organisers among them Capital FM, to help raise the Sh50 million that is the Mater Heart Run 2013 target through on-air promotions and on the ground through activations.
You can make your contribution by buying a T-Shirt at Sh1,000, cap at Sh400 or wrist band at Sh300 from Nakumatt, Galito’s, Chicken Inn, Pizza Inn or Creamy Inn.
“My kids will love the wrist bands that you slap on,” a taxi driver said on making a purchase from a Capital FM member of staff, “and as a parent I understand what it’s like to have a sick child.”
You can also make your contribution through the M-Pesa Paybill number 526300, account number 00000 at no extra charge, “send whatever you’ve got, anything from Sh10 to Sh100,000, and make a difference,” Capital FM presenter Maqbul challenged.
The Capital FM team will be back on the road this Friday and the group’s Managing Director Cyrus Kamau has called on you to buy your T-Shirt, put on your running shoes and make your way to the Nyayo National Stadium if you’re in Nairobi, Mombasa Sports club if you’re down at the coast and Booker Academy if you’re in Mumias at 7am, 9am and 8.30am respectively this Saturday, “the man to beat will be Cyrus on the 10km run.”
