According to police, the General Service Unit officer was shot near the military attache’s residence while conducting a search on suspected criminals.
“He had been informed of the three men, and when he stopped them for a search, one whipped out a pistol and shot him,” a police officer at Muthangari police station said of the incident that occurred at 8pm.
“He had been informed that the men might be armed and that is when he probably decided to frisk them. The armed man shot him before he could start frisking him,” he said.
Nairobi provincial police chief Benson Kibui told Capital FM News that the suspects escaped after the incident and no arrests have been made so far.
Statements were however recorded from witnesses and some of the people who alerted the slain officer about the gangsters.
Elsewhere in Makongeni, a five year-old girl was burned to death when a fire razed their house early on Thursday.
According to police, the fire broke out at 4am when the girl’s mother had reportedly woken up to prepare food for sale.
At least 10 other houses were destroyed in the inferno that quickly spread before it was contained.
