NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 12 – A Kakamega court has now issued a warrant of arrest against Shinyalu lawmaker Silverse Lisamula Anami over his alleged involvement in the torching of a car belonging to former area MP Justus Kizito on the eve of the March 4 polls.

The move comes only days after Kizito filed a petition in court challenging Anami’s election as area MP.

The legislator is being sought because he is believed to have colluded with others to burn the former legislator’s Sh15 million Range Rover, hours to the election.

According to Kakamega District Criminal Investigations Officer (DCIO) Paul Wambugu, police have been investigating the incident and two suspects are in custody.

He said: “We have been investigating this case; some people have already been taken to court and we are looking for others including the area MP. We are calling for their cooperation for us to complete the legal process.”

Wambugu says the court has also ordered the arrest of other suspects believed to have been behind the attack including a brother and sons to the MP.

Kizito’s car was set ablaze hours before polling began as he delivered accreditation to his agents.

He claims to have been accosted by a large group of supporters to one of his opponents at Lukango area of Shinyalu shortly after midnight by people who used two vehicles to block his entourage.

“We were attacked by people who stopped us at a narrow road and pelted us with stones. They forced us out of the car and stole our belongings then burnt our car, luckily we are alive,” he said at the time, while calling on his supporters to maintain peace.

In his petition, Kizito argues that the whole election process was not transparent and that it happened in an environment where his supporters had been intimidated after his car was burnt.
