NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 5 – Orange Democratic Movement contender for the Meru senatorial seat Gitobu Imanyara has become the first to concede defeat in the historic 2013 polls after congratulating his rival Kiraitu Murungi on victory.

Imanyara said: “I wish to congratulate the Meru County Senator-elect Hon Kiraitu Murungi and wish him, and all others elected with him, my best wishes.”

Imanyara, one of the lawyers associated with the struggle for the second liberation of Kenya is now contemplating his future.

“I have now come to the decision that retirement from active politics is the best option. I shall be making a further statement later after consultation with the wider family, friends, supporters and well-wishers,”

He hopes that peace will prevail “in our beautiful country.”
