The Range Rover estimated to be worth about Sh15 million was set ablaze as Kizito was delivering accreditation to his agents.
He claims to have been accosted by a large group of supporters of one of his opponents at Lukango area of Shinyalu shortly after midnight who used two vehicles to block his entourage.
“We were attacked by people who stopped us at a narrow road and pelted us with stones. They forced us out of the car and stole our belongings then burnt our car, luckily we are alive,” he said while calling on his supporters to maintain peace.
“I cannot comprehend the loss of this car while we have 120 stations to cover,” he said.
He was forced to flee on foot in the dark before he was rescued by his supporters.
Kakamega police chief Charles Kinyua confirmed the incident saying several of Kizito’s supporters escaped with minor injuries.
“It’s true a vehicle was torched; we suspect that it is between opponents. Kizito recorded a statement and the matter is now under investigation,” said the OCPD adding that nobody had been arrested over the matter.
Kizito is contesting for the Shinyalu parliamentary seat on a United Democratic Forum (UDF) ticket.
