NAIROBI, Kenya Mar 6 – Cabinet Ministers Amos Kimunya, Chirau Mwakwere, William ole Ntimama, Charity Ngilu, Henry Kosgey, Sally Kosgei, Noah Wekesa and Samuel Poghisio were among those whose political careers took a nose dive as Monday’s general election results began trickling in.

In Tinderet, Industrialisation Minister Kosgey who contested on an ODM ticket, conceded defeat even before the results for the senatorial race were officially announced.

He spoke at a press briefing flanked by his son, Alex Kosgey, who coincidentally won the Emgwen parliamentary seat on a United Republican Party ticket of Jubilee Alliance.

Similarly, Agriculture Minister Sally Kosgei lost her bid to defend the Aldai parliamentary seat.

Across in central Kenya, Transport Minister Amos Kimunya, who was controversially issued with the TNA certificate, got 16,689 votes, losing the Kipipiri seat to Samuel Gichigi, who had defected to Alliance Party of Kenya after the nomination humiliation.

In Narok North, former KWAL chairman, Moitalel ole Kenta (TNA) ousted long-serving Narok MP and National Heritage Minister William Ole Ntimama. Ntimama has been Odinga’s strongman in Maasailand.

Former ruling party KANU also caused upsets when Gideon Moi (Baringo), Nick Salat (Bomet) and John Lonyangapuo (West Pokot) won senatorial seats.

Former Public Works Permanent Secretary Lonyangapuo defeated Information and Communication Minister Samuel Poghisio of URP.

In Cherangany, former MP Joshua Kuttuny (URP) was defeated by Boston marathon champion Wesley Korir, who was running as an independent.

Former Naivasha MP John Mututho, who sought to defend his seat even after losing in the TNA nominations, conceded defeat after it emerged he was trailing the primaries winner John Kihagi.

Education Assistant Minister Ayiecho Olweny lost out to Muhoroni businessman James Onyango K’Oyoo. K’Oyoo defected to the People’s Democratic Party after being controversially denied the Orange Democratic Movement ticket, which was given to Olweny.

Also in the list of big losers include Assistant Ministers Jebii Kilimo, Bifwoli Wakoli and former Assistant Minister Danson Mungatana.

Kilimo who has served two parliamentary terms as Marakwet East MP was beaten by URP’s David Kangogo. Kangogo garnered 11,599 votes while Jebii Kilimo polled 9,196.

Lands assistant minister Wakoli (Ford-K) lost the Bumula seat to Boniface Otsiula (New Ford-K) who clinched 18,072 votes to the assistant minister’s 11,946.
