NAIROBI, Kenya Feb 16 – The first batch of presidential ballot papers for the March 4 general election have already arrived in the country.

IEBC Chief Executive Officer James Oswago has told Capital FM News that the first batch of the presidential ballot papers arrived on Friday night.

“We have already received the first batch of the ballot papers for the presidential election,” Oswago said when reached on telephone.

Oswago said that more presidential ballot papers are expected in the coming week, with the last batch arriving on February 26th.

He said the commission has hired six cargo planes to deliver the ballot papers.

The other ballot papers for governors, Members of Parliament, senators, women representatives and ward representatives are expected later in the month.

Oswago said all the ballot papers will be kept under armed guard throughout the remaining three weeks.

Kenya goes to the ballot on March 4, in its first election since the disputed poll of 2007 which degenerated to the worst violence in the country’s history—leaving at least 1300 people dead, and displacing half a million others.

Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo have assured of adequate security before, during and after the general election.

There are 14 million registered voters participating in this year’s general election.
