NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 20 – President Mwai Kibaki on Wednesday afternoon left for Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania for a two day state visit.

The plane carrying the president and his delegation departed Jomo Kenyatta International Airport shortly after 3pm.

To see off the president at the airport were senior civil servants led by the Head of Public Service and Secretary to the Cabinet Francis Kimemia, Police Inspector General David Kimaiyo and the Chief of Defence Forces Julius Karangi.

While in Tanzania, the Head of State will hold bilateral talks with his host, President Jakaya Kikwete at Dar-es-Salaam State House, before inaugurating the H.E Mwai Kibaki road.

During the talks, the two leaders will review the progress made towards advancing shared interests through the Joint Commission for Cooperation (JCC) framework.

President Kibaki will also tour Ukonga Maximum prison to see firsthand prison reforms being undertaken by the Tanzanian government.

The Head of State is also scheduled to hold talks with elders of Dar-es-Salaam.

During the visit, the president will bid farewell to the government and the people of Tanzania as his term as Head of State and Government comes to an end.

The Head of State is accompanied by Cabinet Ministers Sam Ongeri and Joseph Nyagah, senior government officials and representatives of the business community.
