Court dismisses Uhuru, Ruto eligibility case

Soon after the ruling, Kenyatta’s main rival – Prime Minister Raila Odinga – welcomed the court’s decision.
“I have repeatedly said that my main competitor should have the opportunity to face me in a free and fair election whose outcome is determined by the people of Kenya,” said Odinga upon hearing of the court’s decision.

The National Alliance party Secretary General Onyango Oloo said he was happy that the court had respected the democratic and human rights of the two by honouring presumption of their innocence in view of the ICC cases.

Ruto’s lawyer Katwa Kigen also welcomed the court’s decision appreciating that the matter was finally disposed off through a thorough judicial process.

The International Centre for Policy and Conflict director Ndungu Wainaina dismissed the verdict and vowed to seek redress in the Supreme Court.
