TNA chairman Johnson Sakaja says party has a thorough registration process and no person has been registered as a member without their knowledge/FILE

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 4 – The National Alliance (TNA) on Friday denied allegations that it was fraudulently registering people as its members.

TNA chairman Johnson Sakaja told a news conference that the party has a thorough registration process and no person has been registered as a member without their knowledge.

“We have been registering people across the country in a genuine manner. We have no interest or desire or intention to put anyone on the register without their consent. Kenyans have a right to freely to choose which political parties they want to belong to,” he asserted.

He explained that his party ensures any person who wants to be registered as a member presents their identification and gives their consent before being accepted.

According to Sakaja, claims that they fraudulently registered voters in their party are ill motivated and intended to tarnish the credibility of TNA.

He said the party filed a complaint with the Registrar of Political Parties asking for an explanation of how people who are not its members ended up being listed as such.

Sakaja further urged the registrar’s office to investigate and counter check its systems to ensure no unscrupulous people have access to it.

He complained that TNA was also facing difficulties in registering some of its members, an issue he thought also required attention of the Registrar of Political Parties.

“We are quite concerned that some people allege that they have been fraudulently registered within TNA. We are questioning, what is the intention of people being put in our register without their consent. It is a matter that needs to be addressed urgently,” he said.

Meanwhile he announced that TNA will hold its nominations on January 17.
