The list from the registrar shows that the agreement that was signed at KICC was between Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Democratic Party, Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and FORD Kenya.
During the signing ceremony at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) Ngilu did not mention anything about the deal instead limiting her speech to the agenda she outlined while launching her presidential bid.
She was also seen consulting Prime Minister Raila Odinga while other party leaders signed the deal but she did not appear to have signed any document.

Other parties that said they were part of the deal but are not listed by the registrar include: Kenya Social Congress (Moses Adati), People’s Democratic Party (Omingo Magara), TIP (Kalembe Ndile), Mkenya Solidarity (Maina Njenga), KADU Asili (Gabriel Goda), Muungano (Martin ole Kamwaro), CCU party (Wavinya Ndeti) among others.
Only eight agreements were deposited with the Registrar of Political Parties within the deadline as required by law.
The National Alliance (TNA) out muscled rivals to secure at least three pre-election coalition agreements ahead of the December 4 deadline.
According to Registrar Lucy Ndung’u, among the agreements first received was one between TNA and the Party of National Unity (PNU).
The agreement with PNU signed in October ensured that the latter surrendered its candidates to TNA, and also barred PNU from fielding candidates in the 2013 polls.
TNA, which is led by Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta also signed a deal with William Ruto’s United Republican Party (URP) and Musalia Mudavadi’s United Democratic Forum (UDF) Party.
TNA is also in a separate coalition deal with the Conservative Party.
It is also emerging that Mudavadi’s UDF had signed a second coalition agreement with KANU before it signed the other with URP and TNA.
The deal between the Kenya National Congress of Peter Kenneth and Party of Action’s Raphael Tuju is also now official.
Constitutional Affairs Minister Eugene Wamalwa also deposited an agreement between his New Ford Kenya, National Vision Party, KADU Asili and the Shirikisho Party of Kenya.
Another coalition agreement lodged involves the Labour Party of Kenya, Mwangaza Party, Agano Party, New Democrats, the Peoples Party of Kenya the Progressive Party of Kenya and the National Labour Party.
Meanwhile, the International Center for Policy and Conflict (ICPC) has written to the registrar asking her to publish details of the pre election coalitions.
The letter by ICPC dated December 5 and copied to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC, bases its demand on Article 35 of the constitution which guarantees the right of every citizen to any information held by the state.
Part of the latter reads: “We are writing this letter to request on behalf of the public, publishing and publicising of information held by the Office of Registrar of Political Parties on political parties pre- election agreements.”
