Several other policemen and locals were wounded in the fight.
The conflict ensued as residents armed with bows and arrows resisted an attempted eviction by a combined force of regular and administration police officers.
“These people wanted to evict us and even killed some of our people. What we now want is for the court to decide on the 3rd of next month who really owns this farm,” a resident who has lived in the area for all of his life said and wondered why there was a plot to evict them now.
“These people contravened this court order and came with policemen, guns and pangas to kick us out,” he said.
The residents vowed to resist any attempt to evict them.
Central Provincial Police Chief Francis Munyambu said among those wounded is the police chief for Gatundu.
Munyambu pointed out that he sent more officers to reinforce another contingent sent there in the morning to force the people out of the farm.
Police, who were in the company of a group of youths, were effecting a court order to evict those who they termed as squatters on the land when a clash occurred.
Munyambu said police reacted when they were attacked with spears and stones.
