Uhuru Kenyatta is seen here greeting crowds during campaigns in Isiolo/DPM PRESS SERVICE

NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 23 – Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta took his vote hunt to Meru County where he managed to fish Imenti North MP Silas Muriuki from Energy Minister Kiraitu Murungi’s Alliance Party of Kenya (APK).

Announcing his move to TNA, Muriuki used the opportunity to convince his former party leader to follow him to Kenyatta’s party.

“APK has lost direction but now I have returned home. Even though I was in APK, I had never wavered on the fact that Kenyatta is the presidential candidate of my choice. APK should not ask what people will get from TNA. When Mzee Jomo Kenyatta was the president, he gave the Meru people what belonged to them,” he said.

Speaking when he met over 2,000 candidates eyeing several other positions on a TNA ticket, Kenyatta said he will not accept to be blackmailed by anyone and announced that his party is open to receive any people who want to join it. He said his focus was to lead and work with all Kenyans from all regions.

“How do you ask what you will get even when we haven’t formed a government? My aim is not to form a Kikuyu, Meru, Embu or Kalenjin government. My aim is to form a government of all Kenyans,” he asserted.

He further informed those spreading divisive and hate politics against him that he is ready to dialogue with them for the sake of ensuring peace and unity in Kenya.

Kenyatta who addressed a rally in Meru at the Mwenda Antu grounds in Meru Central also pledged that TNA nominations will be democratic. “The nominations will be free and fair and there will be no favourites. Even if you are my friend but the people reject you, please you will have to accept the will of the people.”

The leaders who spoke when the DPM toured the county told Murungi and MP Peter Munya not to ask what TNA will offer them.

Assistant Ministers Cecily Mbarire, Kilemi Mwiria and MPs from Meru County also advised the two to join TNA.

They asked the two leaders to stop making demands at TNA since it is not yet in government.

Igembe South MP Mithika Linturi asked Kenyatta to ensure that people have direct access to him. “There should be no brokers in between. People should learn to respect others. We have knelt down before them for long… we will not do so anymore. Kiraitu should also join TNA, we do not want to be adopted children in government.”

Meanwhile, Eldoret North MP William Ruto concluded his two day tour of his constituency and also registered himself as a voter at Sugoi in Uasin Gishu County.

Politicians have been urging eligible Kenyans to register themselves in the voter registration exercise which kicked off on Monday.
