Mudavadi seeks IEBC assurance on 2013 poll

Khalwale said that Parliament will want to scrutinise the manner in which an official who worked with the Independent National Electoral Commission in Nigeria was recruited to as a consultant for the IEBC.

The official is expected to put in place logistics for transmission of electronic results from the polling centres to the national tallying centre.

On Thursday, Justice Minister Eugene Wamalwa challenged the IEBC to communicate its programs to the nation to ease anxiety and speculation over the fate of the 2013 general elections.

Wamalwa said that the country was now at a critical stage in the elections calendar and that the IEBC needed to keep the people aware of progress and the challenges it is facing.

“IEBC must come out clearly, speak to Kenyan more regularly, brief Kenyans on weekly basis, tell Kenyans where we are and where we are going because when there is breakdown in communication we give room for propagandists who will tell us that the March 4 election date not achievable,” he said.

Mudavadi also used Friday’s occasion to categorically state that he is not opposed to the fact that The National Alliance (TNA) was making inroads in western province luring councillors.

He said that he is also doing the same with United Democratic Forum (UDF) acquiring members from other parts of the country.

Mudavadi insisted that he still has a good relationship with Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta of TNA.

“I have never been in a wrong working with TNA; we are all hunting for supporters, seeking the support of the Kenyan people and therefore anybody should be accorded the freedom to seek affiliation to whichever political party. We are not in the business of zoning our country,” he explained.
