JOHANNESBURG, Sept 1 – Police in South Africa have uncovered more than 5,000 rounds of ammunition hidden under the pulpit of a Dutch Reformed Church in a town northwest of the country, they said Saturday.

Regional police spokesman Thulani Ngugane said three crates of “more than 5,000 rounds of ammunitions” of various sizes were found concealed under a wooden floor beneath the church’s pulpit in the town of Schweizer-Reneke on Thursday.

“There were crates hidden directly underneath the pulpit,” Thulani Ngugane told AFP.

Investigations are under way and no arrests have been made yet.
