Metito, Namwamba appointed to the Cabinet

Namwamba is now the Minister for Youth and Sports/FILE

NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 20 – Katoo Ole Metito is the new Minister for Internal Security, in a mini Cabinet reshuffle announced by President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga on Thursday.

The two principals also appointed Budalang’i MP Ababu Namwamba as the Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports.

Namwambu’s predecessor Paul Otuoma was transferred from the sports docket to the Ministry of Local Government to replace Fred Gumo who has been serving in an acting capacity since the resignation of Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi. Gumo is the Minister for Regional Development.

Until his appointment Metito, who is the MP for Kajiado South, was the Regional Development Assistant Minister. He replaces Defence Minister Yussuf Haji who was holding forte in the Internal Security docket following the death of Professor George Saitoti in June.

Otuoma will replace Fred Gumo who has been acting in the local government ministry since the resignation of Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi

Another new entrant to the Cabinet is Gwasi MP John Mbadi who was appointed Assistant Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister.

Alfred Khangati who was the Assistant Minister in the PM’s office was moved to the Provincial Administration and Internal Security Ministry to replace Orwa Ojodeh who died in a plane crash together with Prof Saitoti in June.

James Gesami was reinstated as Public Health and Public Sanitation Assistant Minister after he was cleared of corruption-related charges by a Kisumu court.
