IEBC chairman Issack Hassan said a contract for the supply of 15,000 Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits was to be signed by the end of day on Tuesday.
The Canadian Commercial Corporation will provide the BVR kits at a cost of Sh6.2 billion (Euros 56 million).
“Our plans are that we commence the registration on October 11 for 30 days and we are confident of completing the entire process including cleaning up of the register in time for the March 2013 elections,” he said.
Hassan told Parliament’s Constitutional Implementation Oversight Committee (CIOC) on Tuesday morning that officials from the State Law Office, the Treasury and the Ministry of Justice were ready to sign the contract.
He said that the other components of the contract were already signed between the Kenyan and Canadian governments and that the commission was within good time to complete the process ahead of the elections.
“We are now signing the contract on specifications. For instance, on the kind of laptop needed (and the) software that will be required,” he explained to the committee.
