NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 3 – GEMS Cambridge International School, Nairobi’s newest international school offering quality educational and sporting facilities has opened its doors.

“This is an exciting day for GEMS because it marks our first entry into East Africa. We will harness the full range of educational resources across the GEMS global network to make this international school the very best school in Kenya because a quality education impacts not only the child receiving that education, but the child’s family and the broader community,” founder and chairman of GEMS Education Sunny Varkey said.

The founding principal of GEMS Cambridge International School, Jill Roberts said the curriculum stresses the importance of both a local and a global perspective.

“In today’s world, we need to look to the future and prepare our students for life, empowering them to become independent, responsible, self-confident and resilient. I believe in developing strong values and a sense of integrity and pride. I believe in fostering a caring, disciplined and happy learning environment. High expectations and top quality teaching and learning, plus a wide range of extra-curricular activities, lead to academic excellence and a fulfilled child. The school will prepare students for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), the Advanced Subsidiary (AS) and A Level Examinations of the University of Cambridge (UK). Additionally the school will offer Edexcel BTEC Level 2 and 3 qualifications in a range of vocational subjects.

All activities will be underpinned by the GEMS core values which are World Citizenship, Universal Values, Leadership and Forward Thinking. These core values reinforce the importance our school places on an international outlook and respect for different cultures across the world and pervades all aspects of the Academy’s daily life and ethos.

GEMS Cambridge International School, offers a safe and secure boarding facility. In the first year of operation, we will be providing boarding facility for boys and girls, from year 3 – year 9.

GEMS Cambridge International School which is located at a campus in Karen offers students a learning environment with a variety of features and facilities. Each section enjoys its own facilities, flanked by the administration wing. The campus also provides the highest standards of safety and security.

Facilities include: A 25m swimming pool, 400m running track, cricket nets and playing fields complement the indoor sports arena and multi-purpose hall.

A separate playing area is available for students in Foundation Stage to Year 2. The school features well-equipped, science block and five computer (ICT) laboratories, with computer access also available in the libraries. There are two well-resourced libraries for the Middle School and Senior School. In addition, there are two well-stocked art studios that provide students with a wide array of resources for artistic expression and exploration.

The school will have a modern art auditorium, for students to utilise in school performances.
