The missing man was last seen in Thika/FILE

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 19 – A family is still searching for their kin who went missing 15 years ago while working as a cook for former District Commissioner Ali Korane.

Omar Mohamed Hussein had been working for Korane during his various postings, and served him last when he was in Mombasa.

“We have never seen him… we don’t know where he is because we have never heard from him,” his sister Fatuma Mohamed Hussein said in an interview.

Korane said the last time he saw Omar, they were in Mombasa and he left saying he had gone home to Garissa.

“I have been in contact with the family since then and there has been no success in tracing Omar,” he said.

Sometimes in 1997, the family said they had been told he was sighted in Thika.

“That is all we have heard of him, but no one has seen him lately,” she said and appealed to anyone with information that can help them trace Omar to contact them.

His brother Daudi Mohammed Hussein said they have searched for him with little success.

“It has been a long search for Omar, but we have not managed to get him,” he said. “All we want is to know where he is. We will be satisfied.”

He said their mother is distressed by the disappearance.

“She just hopes one day she will see her son, it is very disturbing,” he said. When contacted, Korane said he is also surprised by Omar’s disappearance.

“At first we thought he had been arrested and was in jail somewhere, but we have not been able to find him. We still do not know where he is,” he said.
