NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 28 – Police are now looking for a prime suspect believed to have executed the murder of acting Venezuelan ambassador to Kenya Olga Fonseca.

According to Gigiri police chief Patrick Mwakio, the suspect was among of group of people who attended a party at the ambassador’s residence in Runda on Thursday night.

The suspect is believed to have been among the last people to leave after the party and is wanted to give his account of events that led to the strangulation of the envoy.

“We are well on course with the investigations but we think that this suspect will provide a crucial lead,” said Mwakio.

Police are still questioning two workers who were detained after the ambassador who was found strangled at the residence on Friday morning.

Her body was discovered after guards became worried that she had not left the house to go to work by as late as 9am on Thursday. They broke into the house and found her lifeless body on the bed covered with a duvet.

“Police can confirm that the diplomat was strangled to death this morning and the body is still lying at the house as we investigate circumstances leading to the death,” Nairobi Provincial Police boss Anthony Kibuchi said.

Fonseca, 57, has in the recent past been at loggerheads with other previous employees who allegedly refused to drop sexual harassment complaints against former ambassador Gerardo Carillo Silva.

Staff at the Venezuelan embassy in Nairobi had formally filed complaints with the Diplomatic Police Unit over alleged sexual impropriety by da Silva.

At least three junior employees working at da Silva’s home in Runda had complained over what they termed as sexual harassment.
