VP takes campaign to the Diaspora

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 18, 2012- Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka left the country on Thursday evening for an official visit to the US and China.

In the US, the Vice President will be pursuing a twin-agenda, holding talks with US and World Bank officials and at the same time meeting and addressing Kenyans living in four States.

Musyoka’s engagements with Kenyans in America will take him to Georgia, Texas, Minneapolis and Washington, DC states.

The theme for his discussions will centre on sensitizing Kenyans on Kenya Kwanza Initiative, spearheaded by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission.

Launching the  initiative two months ago, the Vice President described it as the best tool for the country to achieve national cohesion and integration and challenged Kenyans living abroad to take themselves as members of one nation while appreciating unity in their diversity.

The VP will also take time to emphasize to Kenyans living abroad on the importance of increasing their remittances back home, as a way of boosting the local economy.
During the tour in the US tour, the vice president is expected to deliver a speech at the prestigious Brookings Institute in Washington DC.

He will also meet members of the US Senate to discuss American investments in Kenya and the East African region, as well as the issue of conflicts in the region and the Horn of Africa.

The Vice President has been invited to China to attend the Beijing International Service Fair.

He has been invited along Zimbabwean Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai as the official guests at the fair which promotes international tourism and service sector.

The VP will also meet senior Chinese Communist Party leaders and government officials before being conferred with an honorary degree by the famous Nanjing University.
