Mwau’s car knocks pedestrian to death

Nairobi, Kenya, May 17 – A pedestrian died on the spot after being hit by a Mercedes Benz reportedly driven by Kilome MP Harun Mwau on Thursday morning.

The accident occurred near the Serena Hotel in Nairobi at 7am.

“The middle aged man died on the spot,” said Nairobi deputy police Chief Moses Nyakwama.

“Mwau’s vehicle has been towed to Kilimani police station as we investigate the accident.”

The incident comes a day after Parliament commenced debate on changes proposed to the Traffic (Amendment) Bill 2012 which, among other things, seeks to impose life imprisonment for any motorist who causes death by dangerous driving.

The Bill proposes that drivers who violate speed limits be jailed for three months or fined Sh20,000 or both.
