Capital FM News learnt that the warrant was issued by a court in Milimani on Monday afternoon.
“We had to obtain a warrant against him. With the warrant, the MP can be arrested on sight,” one police officer involved in the investigation said.
Midiwo is said to be out of the country, possibly in South Africa, and was expected back in the country any time after Monday.
A directive to have him arrested was issued last Thursday by the Public Prosecutions Director Keriako Tobiko, who concurred with investigators that Midiwo’s claims were false.
Midiwo had publicly declared at a funeral in Bondo two weeks ago that he was privy to a plot to have Odinga killed and even went ahead to name Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Ongeri as being part of the scheme.
In his statement to the police, Midiwo also mentioned several other individuals who were interrogated, including Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta and Eldoret North MP William Ruto before police concluded he was being dishonest.
Once arrested, Midiwo will face charges of giving false information but police can press additional charges based on their investigations.
Ongeri has termed as Midiwo’s claims as ‘baseless’ and threatened to sue him unless he apologised to him for defaming him.
A defiant Midiwo has insisted what he said at the Bondo funeral was true and dared the Foreign Affairs Minister to go to court.
Midiwo had been given until last week to apologise or face Ongeri in court.
