Prof James ole Kiyiapi quit public service in pursuit of higher office/ FILE
Speaking at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC), Kiyiapi said that his decision to run came after serious reflection on the need to change Kenyan politics.
He dispelled fears that he was being used by other politicians saying that he had a vision to transform Kenya.
“I do not become other men’s project. I am God’s project. If there is a God in Heaven, then I am his project. I am a project of the nation, a project of little children, a project of the blind and those who are voiceless,” he declared.
He pledged that if elected president, he would tackle poverty and insufficient food supply to make Kenyans lives comfortable.
“The government that you will usher in next year, the government that you shall build when you give us a chance will unite this nation. It will bring all the 42 tribes and the races of the nation to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of this country.
“We will not again tolerate the leadership of tribalism. And this is why I have not gone to assemble the Maasai people as a tribal alliance,” he said.
He further said that his government will address the issue of youth unemployment.
“This corruption song must stop. We will not sing the song of corruption. We will fight it with all we have using our institutions of governance and the rule of law to ensure that no citizen – big or small – will piggy back and ruin the future of the rest,” he explained.
He called on all Kenyans to join hands in making the country a better place to live in.
“You may be a small scale farmer, a journalist, a factory worker, a student or a senior officer in the army. You may be a Christian, a Muslim or an atheist who believes there is no God. It doesn’t really matter. This is our country together,” he pointed out.
He observed that despite the many challenges that the country has faced, there have also been many great achievements.
“In spite of the many problems that we have had to face, and in spite of the many mistakes and missed opportunities of the past, there are great achievements that have been made through out the period of time that our three presidents have served,” he said.
He said that it was upon all Kenyans to ensure that the future is bright by being active in ensuring that reforms were undertaken in key national institutions.
“Looking now to the future, I want to tell you that I believe that our best days are yet to come. I am asking you for an opportunity to lead this country to a new level of progress and prosperity for us all,” he stated.
He called on Kenyans to give him a chance to lead them saying that he will spearhead the needed changes.
“If you give me this honor, I will dedicate myself to addressing, together with you, the key obstacles that stand between us and the changes that we all want to see,” he pledged.
He said that his government will spearhead changes in the health and education sectors.
“Our public health facilities and services require urgent attention. I want to restructure and develop our health care delivery system, make public health a primary goal. Kenyans should access quality and affordable health care,” he said.
He added: “There are over 15 million children and young people in school from Kindergarten to University that we must plan for. Under my government, we will seek to harness potentials and talents in our children through quality education and training.”
Kiyiapi pointed out that for the nation to reap the full benefits of the new constitution, public morality and accountability are key and that those that society honors need to lead the way in this regard.
