NAIROBI, Kenya, April 8 – The CID headquarters in Nairobi has taken over investigations into claims by Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo that there is a plot to assassinate Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Jakoyo was picked up by CID officers from the Bondo police division led by DCIO ole Tangi and spent nearly an hour with the detectives on Saturday night before he was allowed to leave on condition he reports to the CID headquarters this Tuesday.

“The case has been moved to Nairobi, we will hand them a preliminary report of the investigation so they can proceed,” a senior officer at the Nyanza Provincial police headquarters told Capital News.

Police want Midiwo to substantiate claims he made at a funeral in Bondo on Saturday that there is a plot to have the premier eliminated. He has said he is ready to clarify his remarks.

When he made the sensational allegations, at the funeral of Dr Lehiah Godi in Bondo, Midiwo also implicated a cabinet Minister from Nyanza Province as being the head of the elimination scheme.

He claimed the move is a wide plot by Odinga’s opponents to sail through in the coming elections.

Odinga who was also present at the burial ceremony urged his supporters not to panic over the allegations because his “time to die will come and pass.”

Cabinet Ministers James Orengo (Lands), Dalmas Otieno (Public Service), and Anyang Nyong’o (Medical Services) asked the government to investigate the allegations because the matter “can not be taken lightly.”
