4 suspects killed at Rural Electrification Authority godown

NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 26 – Police have shot and killed four suspected gangsters who had broken into a godown in Nairobi where they were allegedly found loading electric cables and computers onto a truck.

The gangsters had broken into the godown of the Rural Electrification Authority on Mombasa road before they were cornered.

“Thirteen robbers stormed the godown and our officers were notified and they responded quickly and shot four of the gangsters dead,” Nairobi Provincial Police chief Anthony Kibuchi said.

Nine of their accomplices escaped during the 2am shootout.

Police said some of the gangsters were armed with pistols and other crude weapons which they during the break-in.

Incidents of factory burglaries are common in Nairobi, mainly in the Industrial area.

In some of the incidents, night guards are beaten up and tied by burglars who break into the firms while some have been blamed for colluding with the gangsters.

Separately, four suspected gangsters were stoned to death by irate members of the public in Juja road and Umoja.

Three of the thugs said to be street urchins were stoned by members of the public when they were allegedly caught stealing valuables.

Two of them had been seen stealing side mirrors from vehicles in traffic, according to witnesses.

Police officers who responded to their pleas were unable to save them.

“We have been receiving complaints of young men harassing people around this area, some of them are the ones who were beaten to death,” Kibuchi said. “An investigation into what transpired is underway, it is our policy to independently investigate all deaths.”

In Umoja One, Kibuchi said, a thief who had broken into a vehicle and attempted to steal a radio was cornered and beaten to death. His accomplice escaped.
