WUNDANYI, Kenya, Jan 4 – A Wundanyi Court in Taita Taveta County has jailed a man for 20 years after he admitted sodomising a minor.
Johnnes Mwanjala pleaded guilty to the charge before Wundanyi Senior Resident Magistrate Isaac Orenge who convicted him.
The Prosecutor, Chief Inspector Sammy Ombogo, told the court that the accused sodomised the boy, aged 11 years in November last year at Mamochi village in Kishushe location, Wundanyi division.
Mwanjala also faced an alternative charge of intentionally touching the complainant’s private parts.
The prosecution told the court that on the material day the boy went with his younger brother to fetch water from the river.
On their way back they found Mwanjala who alleged that the two had stepped on his crops.
Inspector Ombogo told the court that the matter was reported to the Wundanyi Police Station and the boy was taken to the hospital where he was examined and found to have been sexually abused.
In mitigation, the accused prayed for leniency of the court.
The magistrate however said the offense was serious and the offender will be sent to prison for 20 years.
The accused was granted 14 days to appeal the sentence.
