NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 17 -Water Minister Charity Ngilu on Monday lodged a complaint at the CID headquarters accusing the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission of alleged harassment.
She says she has been inundated with claims of threatening EACC officers.
Ngilu told reporters she had received three letters from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission demanding that she records a statement over the threats she is alleged to have issued to the officers.
“This is pure harassment, how can the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission accuse me of harassing their officers? I have never done this and when my lawyers wrote to them to ask which kind of threats I had allegedly issued, they simply wrote back and said I should go there and that is why I have come here to record a statement,” Ngilu told journalists at the CID headquarters.
“To my knowledge the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission is mandated to investigate corruption cases and not criminal cases, and if they have a genuine complaint against me they should then forward it to the CID but not summon me to their offices,” she said. “I read malice in the whole of this saga!”
In the interview with journalists after recording a statement, Ngilu said she now believes officials at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission are corrupt “if they can make such outrageous allegations against me.”
“One would want to know these threats I am accused of issuing were they through the telephone, were they physical or how were they. They are not telling me they are just saying I go to record a statement with them. I have said I will not go,” she said.
Ngilu also took a swipe at Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka following an incident where she declined to shake his hand at the funeral service of the late Wangari Maathai.
“I have heard people making a big issue that I declined to shake his hand recently. Is he an angel? Why must I shake his hand?” she wondered.
