Aug 31 declared Idd holiday

, NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 19 – The government has declared Wednesday, August 31 a public holiday to mark Idd-Ul-Fitr.

The announcement is contained in a gazette notice issued by Head of the Civil Service Ambassador Francis Muthaura which is dated August 10.

β€œIt is notified for general information that Wednesday, 31st August, 2011, will be observed as a public holiday to mark Idd-Ul-Fitr day,” the brief gazette notice states.

Idd-ul-Fitr often abbreviated to Idd is a holiday that marks the end of the holy Islamic month of fasting known as Ramadhan.

The holiday celebrates the conclusion of the thirty days of dawn-to-sunset fasting observed during the entire month.
