All set for 2011 Mater Heart Run

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 12 – Corporate sponsors of the Mater Heart Run have commended the hospital\’s cardiac programme, saying it is ran with transparency and efficiency.

In an interview with Capital News, Director of Finance and Administration at Heritage A.I.I. Insurance Stephen Lugalia said they have supported the Mater Heart Run for the last 10 years and they are looking forward to continuing in the partnership.

"We realised that what Mater was doing was very unique; they were dealing with an ailment that is very expensive to treat and focusing on a vulnerable group – children," Mr Lugalia said.

Mr Lugalia who is the Corporate Social Responsibility patron at Heritage Insurance notes the charity has grown in its scope, treating more and more needy children every year.

"We are proud to have been one of the first few organisations to take it on a permanent CSR project. Mater is increasingly going to far-flung parts of Kenya to create awareness about heart conditions in children," he said.

Heritage sponsors no less than 30 members of staff who are encouraged to participate with their families.

"This is one of the popular events of the year, our staff usually look forward to going for the Mater Heart Run and this year is no exception. We also take the opportunity to educate the public on the usefulness of medical insurance," said Mr Lugalia.

The 2011 Mater Heart run takes place on Saturday, May 14 starting at the Nyayo National Stadium from 7am.
