NYAMIRA, Kenya, Nov 12 – Police have arrested a man who allegedly butchered his wife and buried her body in a shallow grave after a disagreement over a family chicken.
Neighbours in Ogango village reported that the woman, 35, had slaughtered a chicken for visitors without the consent of her husband.
The suspect is reported to have been angered by the action of the wife and descended upon her with kicks and blows.
Their son who witnessed the unfolding events ran and reported the matter to his maternal grandparents at a nearby village.
Upon return the following morning in the company of his grandparents, they found blood inside the house and they followed the stains to a nearby stream.
The naked body was found wrapped in a sack and buried in a shallow grave by the river.
Police led by Nyamira commander Shadrack Maithia exhumed the body that had numerous deep cuts.
The body was taken to a local mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination.
The suspect was immediately arrested and locked up awaiting arraignment in court.
