Wajir South poll results

WAJIR SOUTH, Oct 14 – ODM Kenya\’s Mahamud Sirat has emerged victorious in the just concluded Wajir South mini-poll, garnering 9,643 votes to beat his closest rival Abdirahman Ali Hassan of KANU.

Mr Hassan got 6,381 votes, according to provisional results.

It was Mr Sirat who filed the petition against Mr Hassan 2007 poll win.

There were six candidates contesting the Wajir South seat but the frontrunners were Mr Hassan, who lost the election petition in July, and Mr Sirat.

Voting at the constituency was largely peaceful and orderly. Polling stations opened at 6am and counting began soon after the vote centres closed at 5pm on Wednesday.

The constituency has 21, 960 registered voters, and the Interim Independent Electoral Commission said voter turnout was exemplary.
