Kenyan beauty in Miss World finals

SANYA, China, Oct 30- A Kenyan lady is among the favorites to win the Miss World 2010 finale that was to be held on Saturday in Sanya, China.

Natasha Metto who was flying the Kenyan flag secured her chance of winning the coveted crown after she won the Miss World Beauty with a Purpose becoming the fifth semifinalist in the contest.

Ms Metto who beat Ghanaian\’s Mimi Areme, and El Salvador\’s Maria Gabriela Molina in the category saw herself fast tracked to the top 25 in the 60th Miss World pageant.

The 20 year old beauty was set to give her all and hopefully win Kenya the Miss World crown for the first time.

Ms Metto won the Miss World Beauty with a Purpose title for her efforts in fighting the jigger worm menace in Kenya together with Miss Kenya 2005 Cecilia Mwangi.

Ghana\’s beauty came in second for her project of freeing Child slaves in her country while the El Salvador representative took the third position for her works in building rural villages back home.

Ms Metto who has just finished her secondary school education plans to study Business Administration in college next year. Her motto is \’confidence can take you where you want to go and make you become what you want to be.\’

She was crowned Miss Kenya in August 21 after beating 11 other finalists. During the said contestant, Ms Metto managed to impress the judges with her beauty, brains and poise.

Before picking this year\’s Kenyan representative, the judges said they were looking for a girl who would bring the crown to the country.

Ms Metto who stands at an impressive six feet, was at a loss for words when she was chosen as the country\’s representative.

The Miss World competition was first held in 1951 and is being staged in Sanya for the fifth time in eight years. The annual event rakes in a global television audience of about one billion viewers.

The 115 contestants have been in China for a month-long tour where some including Kenya\’s Metto have won mini titles that could increase their chances of taking home the coveted crown.

The glamorous finale will be judged by seven former Miss Worlds and it will also see reigning queen Kaiane Aldorino of Gibraltar relinquish her throne.
