Chinese kidnapped in Chad freed in Sudan

, KHARTOUM, Sep 17 – A Chinese engineer kidnapped in Chad has been freed in Sudan\’s restive Darfur region, an ex-rebel spokesman said on Friday.

"Our troops released the Chinese engineer from the kidnappers," said Zonan Suliman, spokesman for Minni Minnawi faction of the Sudan Liberation Army.

The engineer was seized last week in the Chadian region of Ennedi, close to the border with Sudan, where he was working on a project to supply water to the town of Am-Djarass.

The Minnawi faction is the only Darfur rebel group to have signed a peace deal and ended its fight with the Khartoum government.

The former rebel leader is now an advisor to Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir.
