Kenyan President leaves for S. Africa

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 10 – President Mwai Kibaki left Nairobi on Thursday to attend the opening ceremony of the World Cup in South Africa.

The President\’s plane took off from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport shortly after noon. He had earlier chaired a special Cabinet meeting at State House where Finance Minister Uhuru Kenyatta presented the 2010/2011 Budget to his colleagues.

The Head of State was seen off at the airport by Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, Internal Security Minister George Saitoti and Chief of General Staff Jeremiah Kianga among others.

Prime Minister Raila Odinga was also due to depart Nairobi on Thursday evening to attend the World Cup fete.

A statement from the Prime Minister\’s office said Mr Odinga was going to South Africa on the personal invitation of President Jacob Zuma.
